Greensboro Day Beats Forsyth Country Day in a Statement 56-53 Win

In what lived up to the billing as the best matchup in North Carolina this season, Greensboro Day School held off Forsyth Country Day for a hard fought 56-53 victory. The game was played at a high level from start to finish, with both teams trading runs and answering pressure with poise. Ultimately, Greensboro Day’s late game execution and ability to convert key possessions proved to be the difference.

Forsyth Country Day came out strong building a lead that stretched to 10 points during the third quarter and setting the tone with physical play and shot-making, Greensboro Day responded with composure, sparked by the play of Marty Giant, Micah Gunter, and Andrew Juergens, who were key pieces in swinging momentum back in their favor. Gunter's ability to get downhill and settle the offense, Giant’s steady scoring and facilitation, and Juergen’s finishing and shooting presence allowed Greensboro Day to claw back possession by possession. Down the stretch, Greensboro Day valued the ball, limited second chances, and generated quality looks off of great ball movement, well enough to secure the statement victory.

Greensboro Day Standouts

6’4 Marty Giant (2026) led the way with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. He consistently balanced scoring and facilitation, found teammates in rhythm, and finished strong around traffic.

6’3 Micah Gunter (2028) added 17 points and 6 rebounds, continuing to show why he’s one of the top guards in the nation in the 2028 class. He penetrated at a high rate, made efficient decisions with the ball, and impacted the game beyond scoring through effort plays and control. Currently holds offers from Mississippi State, Cincinnati, and High Point University.

6’8 Andrew Juergens (2028) chipped in 13 points, using his length and athleticism to score efficiently while playing above the rim. His presence not only as a finisher and transition threat, but his efficiency in the catch and shoot situation kept constant pressure on the defense. Has an offer from Texas A&M but surely expect more high-majors.

Forsyth Country Day Standouts

5 '10 Q Williams, Coastal Carolina commit, applied steady pressure at the point guard position, pushing pace and creating offense off the bounce while competing defensively. Consistently attacked gaps and set the tone early, helping Forsyth Country Day build momentum. One of the most skilled, and creative shot creators in the state.

6 '7 Jayon Connor (2027)  impacted the game with his physicality and three-level scoring ability, using his strength to finish assertively around the rim and battle on both ends. Despite dealing with late foul trouble, his flashes of shot-making, strength, and versatility continued to highlight his extremely high ceiling as one of the most intriguing long-term prospects on the floor.

6 '11 Prince Nwokemodo (2026) provided a strong interior presence, playing with aggression around the rim. He finished at a high rate with dunks, caught lobs, and used his size to impact the paint, giving Forsyth Country Day consistent physicality inside.

Final Takeaway

This matchup delivered exactly what was expected. High-level execution, physical play, and meaningful possessions on every trip. Forsyth Country Day’s competitiveness and shot-making made it a battle, however Greensboro Day’s ability to stay composed late separated them. Games like this continue to show why North Carolina high school basketball, especially at the top end, is as strong as it’s ever been. With wins like this, Greensboro Day has firmly established itself as the best team in North Carolina and a program that should be monitored closely on both the national stage and by Division I programs.
