OTR Hoops: Winter Mayhem Day 2 Standouts

TAMPA, Fla.- The final On the Radar Hoops event of the year took us to the Sunshine State for the second annual Winter Mayhem. The event brought us some elite matchups and elite competition from the Classes of 2030 through 2033. Here is who stood out on Sunday:

Lyfe Wroten, Skills Center Elite UA 13U:

The 5-foot-5 combo guard ran the offense, where he made smart decisions when he had the basketball in his hands. He made simple reads to keep the offense efficient. On the defensive end, he was quick and was aggressive when guarding on the ball, applying constant pressure and being active in the passing lanes. His ability to control tempo and create his own shot separated him from the rest of the guards in the tournament.

Carmelo Domenech, Skills Center Elite UA 13U:

The 5-foot-6 shooting guard provided a spark when he came off the bench for Skills Center Elite. On the offensive end, he displayed his ability to be a crafty scorer, where he was effective off the bounce as well as the catch. His ability to keep defenders off balance and get to his spots are what stood out for me on Sunday. Defensively, his length and versatility made it difficult for the opposition to get into a rhythm.

Elijah Pressley, Daily Grind Athletics:

The 5-foot-10 combo forward played an inside-out game for Daily Grind despite the loss to Florida Rebels 2032. On the offensive end, he was knocking down shots from inside the paint as well as expanding his range, where he was comfortable shooting from the perimeter. On the defensive end, he brought a versatile skillset where he made havoc at the front of the rim as well as using his athleticism to close out on the perimeter, making it difficult for the opponent to get a great shot off.

Dalonte Trent, Florida Rebels Travis:

The 5-foot-4 point guard played bigger than his size indicates, where he showed a ton of hustle and heart on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he wasn’t afraid when it came to attacking downhill as well as getting into the mid-range with his soft touch and smooth handle. On the defensive end, he was a pest when it came to being active in the passing lanes, where he came away with a game-high 9 steals in the win over Daily Grind Athletics. His quickness and athleticism have blossomed him into being one of the top two-way guards in his class.

Maddex Lewis, Global Not Local:

The 5-foot-6 combo guard was a factor in a variety of ways as his scoring and rebounding were on full display on Sunday. He came up huge when it mattered most for his teammates, finishing with a double-double at 20 points and 11 rebounds to help send his team to the Championship Game for his age division. He was also very active when it came to applying havoc in the passing lanes, getting tips and deflections, which set the energy for his team.

Wyatt Cook, Jayhawks United:

Cook used his combination skillset of size, speed, and length to his advantage on the offensive end, where he got to his spots and was shooting on all three levels with confidence. He was also unafraid when it came to attacking the front of the rim and finishing through contact and getting to the free-throw line. On the defensive end, he contested shots and held his ground against bigger opponents, where he rebounded well and led his team in scoring and rebounding in a semifinal win over Skills Center Elite.
