Class of 2016 G D’Marcus Simonds Buford (GA) has emerged as a star this season
Emerging Star
Sophomore guard D’Marcus Simonds of Buford, Ga. has emerged as one of the top guards in the state of Georgia. This 6-foot-4 guard is averaging 22 points per game to go along with 11 rebounds per contest. Simonds is a big time scorer that does it all with the ball in his hands. He can post-up with his size and strength. His ability to drive to basket and finish with either hand around the basket is uncanny. He has an improving jump shot and his range extends out to 22 feet. Simonds has recently picked up offers from Mississippi State, Connecticut and Georgia.
Miller Grove seeking their 6th State Championship
Miller Grove is seeking to win their sixth straight state championship being lead by sophomore point guard Alterique Gilbert. Gilbert has made a seamless transition to the lead guard position and has even become the engine that has made the Wolverine team succeed this season. Tulane signee Keith Pinckney has provided a great one-two punch to go along with Gilbert.
Junior guard leading the way
Class of 2015 lead guard Eric Williams has carried Athens Academy (GA) on his back this season, leading his team to the state playoffs where they will face defending champions Greenforest Christian (GA). Williams, a two-sport star has named Athens Banner-Herald first-team All-Area selection in both football and basketball. He is also averaging a double-double this season scoring 24.9 points per game to go along with 10 rebounds.
Freshman guard lifts team to second round
James Walker Jr. has emerged as a star this season for Jonesboro, Georgia. Saturday night the 6-foot-4 guard made all the right plays scoring and attacking the basket, finding his teammates for easy buckets around the rim. Jonesboro has advanced to the next round of the state tournament where they will face Worth County.
