Oakwood, GA – Johnson of Gainesville has been the most surprising team in the state of Georgia this year. Led by senior guard Ty Cockfield, Johnson has gone on a tear going through the regular season unbeaten and winning the region champion. Thursday night, they were matched up in the Elite Eight against defending State Champions Jonesboro. Jonesboro was the most talented and athletic team that Johnson has faced this season. Throughout the game, Jonesboro was able to win the battle on the glass and capitalize on turnovers which helped them pull away in the fourth quarter for the win. Here are three players who sparked Jonesboro’s offense in the second half:
Tracy Hector (Jonesboro, Ga.), Jonesboro HS – 2015
At 6-foot-6, he was the biggest player on the floor and was able to use his size and athletisicm to control the paint. Hector was able to score around the basket at will in the first half helping Jonesboro take a five point lead at the half. He finished with 15 points and double digit rebounds picking up an offer from Lander University.
Austin Donaldson (Jonesboro, Ga.), Jonesboro HS – 2015
The Chattangooa signee was the most calm player on the floor. Donaldson is a true leader, and has the proper mentality to play the point and run a team. He can really push the ball down the court and he gets wherever he wants with it. He gets into the paint at will and can get it to the rim with his athleticism and quickness.
Deantre Mack (Jonesboro, Ga.), Jonesboro HS – 2015
This 6-foot-1 guard was the most consistent shooter on the floor. He has great timing around the basket and possesses that instinctive ability of being around the basketball and making plays. He is a 2-guard who can play the 1 as well because of his savvy.
