#OTRHoopsReport: In Focus-Oct. 21, 2013

Editor’s Note: “In Focus” is a regular piece designed to give readers an in depth view of notable basketball players from around the country.

One of the important keys for any championship team is to find production from new players moving into an upcoming year. Coach Sharman White at Miller Grove will be looking at Deven Dorsett to do exactly that this season. Standing at 6-foot-5 and with athleticism to match, Dorsett has the physical tools that are needed to be a key contributor for Miller Grove in 2013. And as we saw at the Fall Showcase, he brings a motor and energy to the court as well.

Dorsett told OntheRadarHoops.com that he is ready up for the upcoming season.

“I want to exceed expectations that people may have for me,” Dorsett said. “And I am ready to put the work in the gym to get there. I still want to improve my jumper and make my handles even better.”

While Dorsett has individual goals in his mind, he has not forgotten what the most important part of this season is for him and his teammates.

“We are going for our sixth straight championship at Miller Grove,” Dorsett added. “We are working with the same work ethic and motto that previous teams have put in before us. We will have to come ready to play every night since we are playing on a national stage.”

Dorsett has put himself in a good spot recently both at the competitive level, but also on the recruiting front. A number of college coaches have been touch with the wiry wing this fall. They see the upside in Dorsett at the college level.

As Shun Williams, the publisher of the OntheRadarHoops scouting report commented “Dorsett has prototypical skills and athleticism to be productive on the college court.” Williams added, “I look for Coach Sharman White to help Dorsett stay focused on both his personal and team goals.”

The recruiting process has taken off for Dorsett this year after a signature moment at an exposure tournament.

“I had a tip dunk in front of a lot of coaches and that really opened a lot of people’s eyes,” Dorsett said. “After that, my recruiting seemed to really take off.”

Dorsett tells OntheRadarHoops.com that Campbell, Georgia State, Seattle, South Alabama, Winthrop and Young Harris have been the schools that have been calling him regularly. As we saw firsthand at the Fall Showcase in September, Dorsett is poised to have a big senior season. If all goes as planned, he will help his Miller Grove program achieve history while also finding a way to play college basketball next year in the process.
