#OTRHoopsReport: Player Spotlights – Cockfield & Turner – Feb. 27, 2014

Turner led Sandy Creek to an overtime victory over Johnson-Gainesville this week.

Ty Cockfield (Oakwood, Ga)-Johnson Gainesville HS-2015

In the first half of a highly contested playoff game, Johnson-Gainesville had to rely heavily on their junior guard Ty Cockfield. This 6-foot guard can push the ball down the court and get wherever he wants with it. The strength of his game lays within his ability to get into the paint and use his athleticism to finish at rim in traffic. Cockfield averaged 18 points and 5 rebounds per game this year while leading the Knights to the second round of the state playoffs.

Christian Turner (Tyrone, Ga)-Sandy Creek HS-2016

The sophomore guard played a major role in Sandy Creek’s Sweet 16 win over Johnson-Gainesville. The 5-9 lead guard made several big plays down the stretch which centered around penetrating the defense and finding his teammates for easy baskets. Turner is extremely quick and makes good decisions with the ball in his hand. Despite his size, the underclassman plays with a big heart. He is a master at penetrating and dishing. He embodies the true point guard mentality, because he is able to keep his head up and play unselfishly. Look for Sandy Creek’s success to center around Turner’s ability to set the table.
