2015 PG Jawun Evans of Kimball (TX) is off the board to Oklahoma State
By: @OntheRadarHoops
Jawun Evans-(Dallas, TX), SC Raptors Elite-2015
Height: 6’
Position: Point Guard
Committed College: Oklahoma State
Evans plays the way that a point guard should play, looking to get his teammates involved as well as leading the defensive charge. He is very adept at creating for both himself and his teammates as he shows tremendous floor vision and good passing ability off the dribble. He pushes the ball in transition and if he is not picked up he will be at the rim before some defenders cross half court.
Player Evaluations:
6/20/14 – NBPA Top 100 Camp (Charlottesville, Va.) – Brandon Clay
Evans was flat awesome here on one of the biggest stages on the circuit. He finished with either hand in transition and is lightning fast. Evans showed himself to be one of the top 3 to 5 point guards in the camp in 2015. His handle allowed him to create and get downhill. Defensively, he was able to get multiple on ball steals and convert at the other end.
6/18/14 – NBPA Top 100 Camp (Charlottesville, Va.) – Jonathan Hemingway
Evans turned heads this weekend with his presence on the floor. Perhaps the turning point moment occurred when he got out into transition and was challenged by Kobi Simmons (GA-16) at the rim. Evans bodied the long, athletic Simmons and finished for a 3 point play. His strength and skill give a perfect complement to his high IQ game.
5/17/14 – Nike EYBL Boo Williams (Hampton, Va.) – Jonathan Hemingway
Evans is a play-making point guard who uses the freeze dribble to create space for himself. He is a perfect complement for this Team Texas Elite team as he is surrounded by shooters and there are gaps for him to penetrate.
5/4/14 Bob Gibbons (Suwanee, Ga.) – Jonathan Hemingway
Evans reminds me of Jordan McLaughlin (CA-14), who signed with USC out of HS, in stature and energy burst. This weekend he led his team to a Gibbons championship with the SC Raptors without another top 100 player alongside of him. He is an aggressive scorer, especially in transition. He attacks the defense and puts the defender at a decision. He does a great job of finishing around the rim.
5/3/14 – Bob Gibbons (Suwanee, Ga.) – Brandon Clay
Evans was good here hitting a tough right-handed floater in traffic. He likes to attack despite possessing a slender frame. Evans was reluctant to shoot the open 3-pointer here but showed himself to be one of the top 8-10 point guards nationally in the class
