Tyrone, Ga. – The Sandy Creek Annual Shoot Out provided a platform for a terrific showdown of elite talent this weekend. A line up which consisted of some of the top programs in the state of Georgia squared off for a one day showcase. Here is a look at a few individuals who seized the opportunity to impress in the first week of the season.

Dishon Lowery (Peachtree City, Ga.) – McIntosh – 2016

Lowery was perhaps the most consistent and impactful player for the Chiefs this weekend. Lowery is strong, athletic and always plays in attack mode. He uses his body well to drive by defenders to score, mostly going to his right to get to the rim. This 6-foot-7 forward was an enforcer in the lane. He blocked shots on and away from the ball, rebounded at rim level and finished drop off passes with touch and body control. Lowery is a player that mid-major coaches will be tracking this summer.

Tookie Brown (Madison, Ga.) – Morgan County- 2015

I love the passion and intensity that this kid plays with – He is the ultimate competitor. After a slow start, the 5-foot-10 guard dazzled the spectators at the Shoot Out with an array of flip and no look passes. Brown helped contribute for 12 points in the third quarter rather it was scoring or finding teammates for an easy basket regaining the lead. Brown finished the game with 19 points. Next year, he will play for coach Rick Ray at Mississippi State. Look for Brown to compete for playing time right away when he gets on campus in Starkville next season.

Kenny Lewis (Fayetteville, Ga.) – Fayette County – 2015

Lewis was one of the biggest surprises over the weekend. This 6-foot-1 tough and exciting lead guard has the ability to hurt the defense with his ability to score. Lewis can knock down 3’s off the dribble or catch. He can get into the lane at will and does not hesitate to take on taller defenders. Lewis finished the game with (5) three pointers in a 31 point effort.

Christian Turner (Tyrone, Ga.) – Sandy Creek – 2016

In the feature game of the evening, the home team Sandy Creek faced a tough Jordan team out of Columbus, Georgia. Turner put the home team on his back in the second half as they continued to fight back down as much at 12 points. Turner put constant pressure on the defense with his attacking style. In transition, he will pass ahead without delay or attack the defense himself. Turner showed the ability to get to the basket and finish with either hand which helped Sandy Creek pull out the win.
