Phil Cofer to Florida State

Name: Phil Cofer

Height: 6’8″
Committed College: Florida Sate
Position: PF
Specialty: Hustle, energy, athleticism on the glass
Florida State was able to secure a commitment late from one of the top players in the class of 2014 in Phil Cofer of Fayetteville, Ga. Cofer originally signed with Tennessee in the fall while coach Cuonzo Martin was still the coach. Like fellow early-period signees Larry Austin, Jordan Cornish and C.J. Turman, Cofer requested and was granted a release from his national letter of intent in the first few days of Donnie Tyndall’s tenure replacing Martin, who left for California after three seasons at Tennessee.
“The Fit”
Cofer has an opportunity to step into a situation where he could earn as much playing time as he can handle his freshman year. Coach Leonard Hamiltons ’s depth at the forward and post position will be thin next season. Cofer will have to show that his offensive skill set is ready for major minutes within the Atlantic Coast Conference. There is little question that his athleticism will allow him to be a presence on the defensive end and on the glass. The consistency on his jumper could determine how many minutes he logs in Tallahassee.
