As the OTR Circuit heats up heading into July, the 17U division has delivered plenty of standout performances this spring. With teams battling for positioning and brackets getting tighter, a handful of players have separated themselves as the engines driving their squads. Here are our MVP nominations for the 17U division—guys who have carried their teams, made big plays when it mattered, and put themselves in position to make noise this summer.

Whit Bynoe – Sunshine Elite – 2027

Sunshine Elite sits atop the 17U rankings with an 18-4 record. Bynoe is the guy who has made that group click this year. He possesses a rare combination of competitiveness, IQ, and natural ability. The 6-foot point guard has grown into his role on this team, dating back to last year. He enters July as one of the top prospects on the circuit and looks to lead Sunshine Elite to a second OTR Circuit championship.

Donovan Swain – Team Gold Coast – 2027

Swain broke out early on the Circuit, earning Player of the Month honors in March. Since then he has led Team Gold Coast to a 16-10 record while also collecting quite a few offers. He is a 6-foot-3 guard who specializes in scoring the ball. He can hit jumpers or swish floaters over paint defenders off the dribble. His blend of footwork, balance, and athleticism has led many to say that he is the top prospect on the Circuit.

Jayden Gunby – Charlotte Aces – 2027

Gunby is a late bloomer and also young in comparison. He graduated high school this spring and is currently exploring all options as to where his next stop will be on his basketball journey. He left little doubt as to his impact this spring. He dominated the middle third of the floor as a rebounder, scorer, and defender for the Charlotte Aces. The 6-foot-7 forward has an old-school edge to him. He is not afraid of contact and is willing to carve out space to impose his will. His face-up game is blossoming as well. He can act as a trail 4 in a hi-lo offense who can drain the reversal 3 or duck in off the PnR action.

Bryce Hoffert – Sunshine Elite – 2027

In terms of players who project as instant impact at the collegiate level, Hoffert might have the best profile. The 6-foot-7 wing-forward has the size and shooting ability that college coaches are excited about incorporating into their systems these days. He can act as floor spacer on one end and provide interior fight on the defensive end. Hoffert has proved he is more than just a spot shooter over the two years we have evaluated him. He is proficient as a passer, handler, and rebounder, routinely putting up fat numbers across the stat sheet. He earned MVP honors last summer when Sunshine Elite took home the 2025 16U OTR Circuit Championship. His play has not leveled off since then, but instead continues to expand.

Kevin Rogers – Atlanta Kings – 2027

Rogers ensured that everyone learned his name this spring. The Atlanta Kings rocketed to a 10-0 record to start the Circuit season before finishing in the top five in the rankings. Rogers was the engine to that success, averaging better than 20 points per game while also being mentioned as one of the top defenders for his squad. The Kings bring a traditional Atlanta grassroots grit to the court. Rogers’ scoring ability gives his team the flair necessary to compete with the best in the region. The Cedar Grove product has built his case as one of the top prospects on the Circuit and in the state of Georgia in the process.

Tim Johnson – Sewer South – 2027

As expected, scoring guards and flashy ball-handling point guards get most of the recognition during the early parts of the travel ball season. However, to be competitive and make deep runs in July brackets, you need to defend, rebound, and have a reliable interior scoring presence. Johnson brings these exact things to the floor for Sewer South. He has been the anchor for Coach Spencer Dixon’s squad. While he may not lead the group in points, he has been there in the biggest moments with blocked shots and closing defensive possessions. The 6-foot-10 center is certain to draw a crowd to the courts this July.

Lorenzo McCorvey – Team Person – 2027

McCorvey’s evolution as a prospect has been one of the biggest stories to develop from the Circuit this past spring. He is a 6-foot-6 wing who took over ball-handling responsibilities for Team Person this year. He often acted as the primary facilitator and play creator for his squad. In previous evaluations we had noted him as a swing forward who worked the baseline and picked his spots to attack the rim. His growth as a prospect coincided with the late spring revival of Coach Person’s squad. There was a report that McCorvey suffered an injury in June. We will keep an eye on how that develops in July.

Keelan Day – Griffin Grasshoppers – 2027

In a Circuit full of dynamic scoring guards, Day has earned his reputation as one of the best, if not the best, scorers this year. The lanky 6-foot-4 combo guard can operate as a primary handler or work from the wing to get buckets. Coach Duck Richards reported that Day averaged 25.3 points per game for the Grasshoppers. This, combined with their 10 wins this spring, makes Day belong.

Byron Lee – Team S.M.A.S.H. – 2027

Byron Lee earned offers from Bethune-Cookman and Norfolk State last month during the GBCA Live Period. His momentum began months before with his play with Team S.M.A.S.H. on the OTR Circuit. He is a 6-foot-7 wing-forward with versatility. He brings a tough combination of strength and agility that allows him to play bully-ball in the paint or finesse opponents at the arc. Lee is trending upwards and for that reason, Team S.M.A.S.H. will be a tough out in July.

Gavin Reed – Team Gold Coast – 2027

Reed has been on a heater in 2026. Although his teammate, Donovan Swain, may be the lead scorer for Gold Coast, Reed has proven to be invaluable to his team’s success. He gets buckets in tough spots and has proven he can go toe-to-toe with anyone that laces up their shoes on this platform. Reed’s value goes beyond scoring, however. He can be a true floor general setting up his teammates with the right pass at the right time. He competes defensively and makes opposing ball handlers work for their spot on the floor. For all of these reasons, Reed has made a significant MVP case this year.
