INDIAN TRAIL, North Carolina – On the Radar Hoops hosted the Memorial Day Classic in the Charlotte, North Carolina area last weekend. The OTR media teams were on site both in Florida and in North Carolina. We had a courtside seat for the action at the Carolina Courts facility and took note of the progression of the Circuit teams. Here is a look at the performances of the Circuit teams we tracked.
Charlotte Aces
All the young men on the Charlotte Aces roster were not even born when Coach Ligon began his work in grassroots basketball. The energy around the Aces ball club all weekend was positive. Standards set. Expectations followed up on. There were even former players stopping by to see the next generation of Aces take the floor.
By the end of the weekend the Aces finished a perfect 5-0 and held the championship banner. Ligon’s program should be considered a grassroots standard in terms of developing talent and building young men with character. Their success has stretched all spring with a 16-7 record, which gives them the second-highest winning percentage on the OTR Circuit at present.
College coaches should track this crew during July. There are several prospects who are ready to contribute at the college level. It starts with Jayden Gunby. The 6-foot-7 forward is a bit of a late bloomer in terms of basketball. He is a high academic prospect who had a diverse set of interests in early adolescence. Today, he is on the short list of most productive prospects on the OTR Circuit. He works the glass on either end of the floor. He uses strength and agility to gain angles to score on the interior while also being a threat to finish with 2-hand flushes in traffic. He has a high school diploma, but he is exploring all his options now.
The Aces back court of ’26 Deshawn Coulter and ’27 Isaiah Nickerson is as productive as any duo on the OTR Circuit this season. Either player can handle and initiate the offense while also picking their spots to get a bucket.
Joining Gunby along the frontline is ’28 Jackson Reed. In terms of future potential, this is a prospect that perhaps has the brightest horizon. He is versatile and athletic. He is a threat to knock down perimeter jumpers as well as finishing alley-oops dunks in transition.
Team Person
Team Person brought two squads to the Charlotte area to compete. The 17U squad played the first two days and earned a 3-0 record. They head into July appearing to have found momentum and position themselves to defend the 2025 OTR Circuit title.
The emergence of Lorenzo McCorvey has been the biggest reason for the late spring resurgence of this group. The 6-foot-6 guard has taken the reins as the lead guard and playmaker for this squad. He is becoming one of the top overall prospects that college coaches should target this July.
Anthony Moon remains a tough frontline option for Person’s program. The 6-foot-7 forward runs the floor, rebounds, and is showing an expanded offensive skill set this spring. He is joined on the frontline by ’27 forward Chris Person. He has stood out in recent weeks for his consistent finishing above the rim and rebounding in traffic.
A pair of guards have found their rhythm in Indian Trail. Jamai McClure is a consistent threat to drain 3s while spacing behind the arc. Meanwhile, Trey Smith is a reliable all-around guard who can handle, pass, and hit the open shot for this team.
As good as the 17U team has been this season, Person’s 15U squad has generated an equal amount of buzz. They finished the Memorial Day weekend with a 3-1 record, which pushed their overall record to 18-6 on the OTR Circuit.
Class of 2029 forward Devin Melton is a favorite for 15U MVP this season. The 6-foot-9 Alabama native has natural athleticism combined with touch around the rim. This unique combination of skills is rare to find in a kid his age.
Melton was not a one-man show over the weekend. ’29 guard Ouss Ibrahim showed his shooting ability while ’31 Jax Teal burst onto the stage with a 15-point game on Sunday morning.
Georgia Stunners
The Stunners are back as one of the top travel programs in the Atlanta area this year. They have a youth movement of prospects who we will be talking about for years to come. Coach Anton Jackson expressed optimism about the group he is currently working with.
The 16U group turned in a perfect 3-0 record over the two days they were there. Class of 2028 MJ Jawona caught our eye with athleticism and the ability to run the floor as a 6-foot-8 forward. Guards Abraham Feleke and Kaden Hibbert pushed the tempo for this group. Watch for a pair of Alexander High School prospects, Donovan Martin and Trevall Blake, to continue their ascension with the Stunners.
The 15U squad recorded a perfect 4-0 record over the weekend. That pushes their overall record out to 16-2 on the OTR Circuit. They have also earned the reputation as one of the top 15U teams in the state of Georgia in recent weeks.
Wing Ethan Moore is earning a reputation as one of the premier two-sport athletes in the Southeast as he has garnered a few D-1 football offers this spring. Guard Terrance Piggot delivered the highlight of the weekend (video above) draining a 3-pointer at the buzzer to secure a win on Sunday afternoon.
Post player Derrick Williams is far ahead of schedule in terms of his development. He is a 6-foot-10 prospect who knows how to use his body to seal and score. Point guard Sevon Jackson runs the show in the back court as the director of the offense. Guard Colby Williams is the glue guy who brings it all together with defense, rebounding, and making winning plays. Other players such as KJ Reed, Trevor Henry, and Noah Fennessy have stood out for their play as well.
Quick Hitters
HWPO 16U improved their record on the OTR Circuit to 24-6 with a 5-0 weekend. Point guard Cameron Blackman is making a strong case for 16U MVP. Scouts also loved Khaleb Young because of his consistency.
Rare 1s 17U had a strong showing over the weekend and battled with the Aces to the final buzzer before finishing as runners-up. Guard KJ Taylor is a player who is trending for his steady play and shot-making skills. ’26 Jerry Kuttas and ’27 Raymone Cameron brought production all weekend with perimeter shooting and strong defense.
We got a first look at the We Just Hoop program out of the Charlotte area during this event. Their 15U competed with toughness all weekend. ’29 wing Jovani Spencer impressed with shot making and his strength in traffic.
Tennessee Panthers guard ’26 Kai Horne continues to earn recognition as a top scoring guard on the OTR Circuit. He continues his momentum from the high school season where he was the top scorer in the state of Tennessee. Their 16U squad features ’28 Cooper McElroy who stands out as a shooter and fast break finisher.
Grindhouse Lakers finished with a 3-1 record over the weekend. ’27 wing Kieji Cunningham continues to be a standout performer on the OTR Circuit. He is one of the best athletes we have evaluated this spring.
