OTR Hoops: 2028 Prospects to Watch This Spring in Florida (Part 2)
The Grassroots season is approaching, and we will be breaking down some of the top players to watch in their respective classes. Here are some of the top sophomores to watch for this upcoming spring and summer.
John Arroyo - Jr- Jesuit (Tampa) - 2028: The 5-foot-10 point guard plays with a strong knack for unselfishness, where he kicks ahead to teammates in transition, as well as the ability to score on all three levels at a high rate. He is a strong passer when playing on the move, as he finds open teammates off dribble drives as well as on the swing pass. Defensively, he is active when guarding the ball as well as in the passing lanes, where he uses his athleticism to go get deflections or force turnovers, which can lead to scores on the opposite end.
LJ Bacon - The First Academy (Orlando) - 2028: Bacon has a combination skillset of size, speed, and toughness when in the open court. On offense, he can finish around the rim as well as make you pay with the ability to shoot from well behind the three-point arc. On the defensive end, his vocality and leadership are what separate him from other guards in the class. Bacon is a true two-way player that college coaches are going to want to get to know in the Central Florida area, as he is poised to have a breakout spring.
Corey Capps - The First Academy (Orlando) - 2028: Capps takes advantage of mismatches on the offensive end, where he has a strong nose for attacking the basket. On the defensive end, his length and athleticism make it difficult for opposing guards to get to their spots, as well as finishing at the front of the rim. His impact on scoring on the offensive end as well as defending at all three levels could spark an immediate impact for coaches to start taking interest in the 6-foot-2 guard, out of Orlando.
Tyler Kroog - Ponte Vedra - 2028: Kroog is a multi-versatile athlete who can get to his spots on the offensive end, playing on the ball as well as off. His release is smooth and quick when left uncovered, where he makes defenders pay with his high percentage when shooting from the three-point line. On the defensive end, he displays elite footwork and can guard multiple positions, playing inside as well as outside. As he finishes his sophomore season, he will be a name you will want to get to know over the course of the next couple of years.
Tyler Sabec - Calvary Christian (Clearwater) - 2028: Sabec is a long-armed wing who has a soft touch around the rim as well as the ability to expand his range, where he can knock down open shots from the mid-range. He has added a smooth handle to the basketball, where his maturity takes his offensive game beyond his years. On the defensive end, Sabec has become more versatile with his length, often guarding out on the perimeter and doing a great job challenging shots at the rim. Sabec will be a name to watch over the next couple of years.
Jaydon Shannon - Winthrop College Preparatory Academy - 2028: Shannon is a scoring threat where he can make defenders pay off the move as well as off the catch on the offensive end. He also has a strong knack for finishing around the rim as well as being effective in the mid-range game. On the defensive end, Shannon is an elite playmaker, where his energy and athleticism allow him to guard multiple positions. His potential is high, and he could start receiving interest from coaches in the near future. Shannon is averaging 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season.
