CUMMING, Ga. — The first July live weekend is behind us and the second is mere hours away. This is one of the busiest and most exciting stretches on the basketball calendar. 

Players are afforded the opportunity to play in front of college coaches. At On The Radar that means high-level competition in front of coaches of all levels and a plethora of scouts and scouting services. 

Elite 32 is in the rearview, but the discussions from the weekend will continue into the weekend ahead. 

These are some of the names that impressed:

Gavin Reed - Team Gold Coast - 2027

There aren’t many players in the region who are playing as well as Reed is right now. He’s taken his game to another level over the last two live period weekends. Things just work for Gold Coast when he’s on the floor. Reed does a tremendous job of making the offense operate well as the head of the snake. He sets his teammates up well, and he can take over as a scorer as well. Reed’s mid-range pull up is deadly. Watching Reed with multiple basketball people I trust, similar remarks have been made about how well he handles pressure and how he attacks with a purpose and with confidence. Finally, his recruitment is starting to take off. He’s going to be a productive college player. 

Whit Bynoe - Sunshine Elite - 2027

Bynoe has been one of the best circuit players for two seasons now. He’s one of the more crafty guards in the region, and he’s capable of getting scorching hot from three. He opened his weekend with a 40-point game. Bynoe is an outstanding playmaker away from putting the ball in the basket. He has a good feel for the game and consistently keeps the ball moving to ensure his team gets an optimal shot. He’s a manipulative driver. Bynoe often has defenses guessing and is able to use a deceptive game to create himself a couple of easy looks at the basket per game. 

Bryce Hoffert - Sunshine Elite - 2027

Similarly, Bryce Hoffert has been a consistent standout with Sunshine Elite. He was great again over the weekend. His shooting and above-the-rim ability from the wing spot are always impressive. Hoffert’s passing is perhaps an underrated part of his game. He’s often used as a playmaker in certain sets, but he also has the feel to be an initiator in a more free-flowing game. His overall production was on display all weekend. He’s a stat stuffer.   

Carmelo Williams - Georgia Canes - 2027

Williams has been one of the most productive players this spring. He’s a do-everything kind of player for this Canes squad. He’s a great off-the-dribble playmaker and play finisher. Williams is a slasher who creates for himself and others. He proved that his jumper is a weapon to account for as well. He drilled multiple triples against some of the best teams in the field. 

Zane Hereford - Georgia Legacy - 2027 

Hereford brings good athleticism to this Legacy team. His impact was felt on both ends of the floor. On offense, he can be a multi-level scorer with the ability to put pressure on the rim. He can be counted on to go make a play happen. It was evidenced by multiple 15-plus point games. Hereford will be an under-the-radar guy for coaches to check in on this coming weekend.
