OTR Hoops: Elite 32 17U standouts, Pt. I

The first July live weekend is behind us and the second is mere hours away. This is one of the busiest and most exciting stretches on the basketball calendar.

Players are afforded the opportunity to play in front of college coaches. At On The Radar that means high-level competition in front of coaches of all levels and a plethora of scouts and scouting services.

Elite 32 is in the rearview, but the discussions from the weekend will continue into the weekend ahead.

CUMMING, Ga. — The first July live weekend is behind us and the second is mere hours away.

These are some of the names that impressed:

Levi Moore - Upside Athletics - 2028

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the weekend came during one of the last games. Playing up, 2028 point guard Levi Moore dropped 43 points and continued to put our staff on notice. From Texas, Moore has impressed in multiple outings at OTR events this spring, but this was his capstone. His shifty and crafty game earned him buckets at the rim or trips to the free-throw line, and he showed off high-level shotmaking from multiple spots on the floor. Moore can get buckets from all levels in a variety of ways, but he showed that he’s more than willing and capable of making plays for everyone around him. Moore just makes the right play for a given situation. He’ll be a hot name this time next year.

Donovan Swain - Team Gold Coast - 2027

One of the best prospects on the OTR Circuit, Swain made a strong case for MVP this weekend. He averaged nearly 20-points per game and shined when the lights were at their brightest. In the game of the year between the two best Circuit teams, Swain made clutch plays to get Gold Coast a sterling resume win over Sunshine Elite. It was a back-and-forth affair. Down three with seconds on the clock, TGC ran a play to get Swain an open look from three and he buried it to tie things up and send things to OT. To start the extra period, his name was called again, and he buried another triple to give TGC a lead which they held for the remainder of the game.

Martaiveis Rice - Gold Elite - 2027

Rice is a player coaches will want to check in on during the upcoming live weekend and beyond. He checks a lot of boxes and could wind up being a steal for someone. Rice showed two-way aptitude. A disruptor on one end and multi-level scorer on the other, Rice produced in multiple viewings. He plays a grittier, physical style on defense that has to be frustrating to go up against. On offense, Rice can knock down multiple shots in a row or slash his way to the basket. He was one of the best players this weekend.

Cory McPherson - Sunshine Elite - 2027

After taking a minor injury during the second live period in June, McPherson looked as good as ever this weekend. He has been killer all year with Sunshine Elite, but this could have been his best weekend yet. McPherson’s shotmaking and efficiency were on full display. As is the case with all of this squad, McPherson knows when to be aggressive or when to move the ball and get his team the best shot. He went into microwave mode and rattled off several buckets in a row, but it was never egregious. It all came within the flow of the game. McPherson is a pesky defender as well.

Jarvis Williams - Warner Robins Allstars - 2028

Williams has spent all spring playing up in 17U. This experience will have him ready to go into next season as a seasoned vet. He had some great moments with WR Allstars this weekend. Per usual, his shotmaking was his calling card. Williams is capable of changing a game with his 3-point shot. He’s as dangerous as anyone when he sees one go down. One thing about William is that his overall game is improving as a result of playing older competition. He’s gotten better as a secondary playmaker and should continue to make waves in that regard throughout the fall and winter. Just keep this name in your back pocket for next spring.
