PLAYERS FEATURED
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The scholastic Live Period is officially underway, where 60+ college coaches and over 130 teams across the Southeast region are on full display. Here are eight (8) players who stood out on the second day of the event:
Nijaun Harris - Boca Ciega (FL) - 2028
The 6-foot-5 rising junior small forward impacted the game in multiple ways, whether it was finishing around the rim on the offensive end or adding solid rim protection on the defensive end. He also adds great body positioning and versatility, where he guarded multiple positions and snatched down timely rebounds, limiting the opposition from getting second-chance scoring opportunities. His overall activity on both ends of the floor provided a huge spark in a win over Booker T. Washington (Pensacola).
Sebastian Madera - Miami Palmetto (FL) - 2027
The 6-foot-6 rising senior wing showcased his ability to play inside as well as outside with his elite footwork and confidence when it came to being a floor spacer. In an overtime win over North Broward Prep, Madera knocked down the game-winning free throw to finish with a game-high 14 points. On the defensive end, he added vocality and toughness, where he impacts the game on all three levels. Overall, Madera is a stock riser heading into his senior season, where he could draw some interest from lower D-2 to higher D-3 schools as the summer rolls on.
Kellson “KJ” Sandi - St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) - 2027
The 6-foot-2 rising senior point guard showed true poise and patience when it came to initiating the offense in the win over Lake Highland Prep. He showed a good burst of speed when it came to attacking downhill, attacking gaps, and kicking out to his teammates off penetration on the offensive end. On defense, he showed his aggressiveness when playing in the passing gaps and applying heavy pressure when guarding on the ball. His overall performance played a huge role in the opening game on Saturday where his two-way playmaking continues to open doors for his potential to make an immediate impact at the next level.
Lynden Adea - Saint Andrew’s (FL) - 2028
The 6-foot-1 rising junior point guard didn’t get phased or rattled on the offensive end, where his ability to get his teammates involved or to shy away from contact when finishing above the rim impacted his overall game. He knocked down the game-winning free throw in sudden-death overtime to help lift his team to a win over Coral Glades. On the defensive end, he played with energy and toughness throughout the course of the game and was a huge reason they erased a double-digit deficit in the second half to secure the win. Look for Adea to have a stellar second half of the summer season and continue to play with confidence heading into his junior season.
Branden Sharpe - Sagemont (FL) - 2028
The 6-foot-5 rising junior guard showcased a strong scoring performance where he can impact the game on all three levels on the offensive end. His ability to get downhill and finish above the rim at the point of attack was what set his team apart in the win over Oak Ridge. Defensively, he made an immediate impact using his combination skillset of length and speed, where he was jumping the passing lanes, altering shots around the rim, and snatching down timely rebounds as well. Overall, his poise and feel for the game could open doors for a huge burst in his recruitment.
6-3 SG Chase Weismiller - Sickles (FL)- 2027
The 6-foot-3 rising senior guard is one of the most consistent scorers in the state, where he doesn’t need a ton of time to get off a solid look at the rim, whether it’s off the catch or bounce. Weismiller is another player going into his senior season, during which he has missed nearly a full calendar year after sustaining a knee injury during last July’s Live Period. In the first game against Bishop Kenny, Weismiller finished with 14 points on 2-of-6 from behind the arc. In the second game of the day against Orlando Evans, Weismiller was more efficient, finishing with double figures in scoring and got his teammates involved with his playmaking off the ball as well as when he was the team’s primary ball handler.
Clarence Westbrook Jr - St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) - 2027
The 6-foot-2 rising senior guard consistently influences the game with his versatile skill set of poise, pace, and patience. He continues to make plays in the open court, where he plays with a clear purpose in getting his teammates involved early and often. On defense, he was heavily applying ball pressure for opposing guards as he made strong reads, showing great speed in the passing lanes, and making havoc for opposing ball-handlers to be creative on the defensive end. Overall, Westbrook impacts the game in multiple ways, where he doesn’t need to be the primary scorer for his team to continue to have success. He quietly emerged in the second half as the team’s primary ball handler and initiator on the offensive end.
Ryan Gornto - Providence School (FL) - 2027
Gornto is a gifted scorer with a lightning-quick release of a jump shot on the offensive end, where he put together a well-rounded performance in the win over Bartow. He showcased a smooth handle and can operate himself as an elite decision-maker, as he is a pass-first guard who gets his teammates involved early and often on the offensive end. He is a mature guard with a great feel and understanding of the game, where he doesn’t need the basketball in his hands to make an immediate impact. Look for the 6-foot-3 rising senior guard to have a big July after coming off a strong high school season where he helped lead the Stallions to a state championship.
