The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) boys’ basketball state championships resume this week with the larger classifications taking the stage at UNF Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Here is a preview of the 4A semifinals that are scheduled to take place on Tuesday:
Boca Ciega (Gulfport) vs. Suncoast (Riviera Beach)- Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m.:
In our first semifinal in Class 4A, we have a couple of unfamiliar faces as the Suncoast Chargers take on the Boca Ciega Pirates, where each program will look to take home some hardware that they have not done in a long time.
The Boca Ciega Pirates (18-10) make an appearance in the Final Four for the first time in program history, where they will also appear as a district runner-up. Along the way, the Pirates have picked up three hard- fought wins in the regional round, where they defeated LaBelle, Gulf, and last year’s Class 4A runner-up Gibbs. The Pirates this season have been led by 6-foot-6 junior small forward Anthony Brown and 6-foot-5 senior guard Keshawn Andrews.
The Suncoast Chargers (23-5) will be making their first Final Four appearance since 1990, where they went on to defeat Mulberry in the Class 2A Championship Game that season. Like their opponent in Boca Ciega, the Chargers will be coming into the Final Four on a three-game winning streak, dating back to February 7, when they lost to Stranahan in the Class 4A, District 14 Championship Game. The Chargers got their revenge on the reigning Class 4A champion Stranahan Dragons, 55-50 in overtime in the regional final back on February 28. The Chargers have been led this season by 6-foot-3 senior combo guard Aaron Horton, 5- foot-11 senior point guard Jamarey Harris, and 6-foot senior guard Kyree McKelton.
Atlantic (Port Orange) vs. Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville)- Tuesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m.:
In our second semifinal in Class 4A, we feature a first-time semifinalist taking on another local powerhouse in Bishop Kenny, which is 13 miles away from UNF Arena.
The Atlantic Sharks (22-9) were one win away in 2025 from getting to the Final Four, but in 2026, they will be making their first appearance on the big stage. The Sharks come into Tuesday’s semifinal matchup with Bishop Kenny on a five-game winning streak, dating back to January 30, when they lost in the regular-season finale to Daytona Beach Mainland. During their regional final win over Eastside (Gainesville), 5-foot-11 senior point guard Cris De La Pena poured in a game-high 29 points in the 58-46 win. Along with De La Pena, the Sharks have been led this season by 6-foot-7 junior forward Emmanuel Martin.
The Bishop Kenny Crusaders (26-3) are one of the hottest remaining teams across the state regardless of classification. The Crusaders come into the Final Four on an 11-game winning streak, dating back to January 10, when they lost to Class 2A champion Providence.
The Crusaders return to the Final Four for the first time since 2016, when they reached the Championship Game before losing to Kissimmee Poinciana when they were in Class 5A. Leading the way this season for the Crusaders has been 5-foot-11 junior point guard Drew Jackson, 6-foot junior combo guard Hogan Labyak, and 6-foot-5 junior wing Joe Joseph.
