OTR Hoops: Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament Standouts- Day 3

The 23rd Annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament is one of the premier high school basketball tournaments in the Southeast region. Here is who stood out on the final day of the event.

Malaki Baker - Dr. Phillips (Florida) - 2026

Baker played an inside-out game on the offensive end, where he can score off the catch as well as the bounce. His athleticism allowed him to get to the paint and finish through contact as well as display a smooth mid-range game. During the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, Baker finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, leading the Panthers to finish in 7th place at the event.

Oneal Delancy - Montverde Academy (Florida) - 2027

Delancy is a crafty scorer who can impact the game in multiple ways. On offense, he doesn’t need to be the primary ball-handler to make an impact, as he gets to his spots off the ball. On the defensive end, he adds physicality where he can guard multiple positions using his length and athleticism to his advantage. In the win over Faith Family Academy, Delancy finished with a game-high 18 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, 3-of-4 from behind the arc, and went a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Mason Fuentes - Riviera Prep (Florida) - 2026

The Stetson University signee is a true floor general and a proven winner where he displayed his creativity and playmaking in the fifth-place game against Bethel Academy. Fuentes finished with a double-double (23 points and 11 assists) while shooting 9-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Fuentes’ leadership has shown throughout his entire high school career, where he could possibly lead Riviera Prep to a fourth consecutive state championship this season.

Kmajay Jenkins - DME Academy (Florida ) - 2028

Jenkins was one of the top two-way players we saw at the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, where he made havoc with his length and poise. On offense, his elite footwork and ability to space the floor with the basketball in his hands were effective. Jenkins has shown true growth in his short stint with DME Academy, where he battled on the boards, limiting the opposition from getting second-chance scoring points. In the third-place game against The Rock School, Jenkins finished with a double-double (14 points and 13 rebounds), along with four assists and three steals.

Yohane Kabongo - DME Academy (Florida) - 2027

Kabongo was non-stop when it came to bruising his way through the lane and finishing through contact on the offensive end in the third-place game against The Rock School. He utilizes his length and strength to his advantage in the open court, whether it’s getting deflections on the defensive end or catching lobs at the rim on the offensive end. Kabongo stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. With his ability to play with his elite athleticism and high motor on both ends of the floor, Kabongo is going to be someone college coaches should be really intrigued about heading into his senior season.

Caron Perez - Bethel Academy (Virginia) - 2027

Perez is a lead guard who thrived on numerous occasions throughout the tournament. During the fifth-place game against Riviera Prep, Perez was most comfortable when it came to finishing at the point of attack around the rim. He was also producing from the mid-range and behind the arc off the bounce as well as the catch. Perez finished with 23 points on 6-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from the three-point line. He was able to absorb contact and get to the free-throw line on several occasions as well, where he knocked down six of his seven free throws in the game. With Perez being more confident in his offensive game this season, expect a breakout spring AAU season.

Gallagher Placide - Faith Family Academy (Texas) - 2026

The Wake Forest signee showed his length and prowess on the offensive end of the floor. Placide was smooth off the bounce and getting into the paint, finishing at the rim against Montverde Academy. He finished with a team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, along with six rebounds. He also added defensive versatility, where his length and explosiveness allowed him to guard multiple positions, altering shots at the rim and getting timely rebounds.
