Trey Beamer, a 6-foot-3 combo guard out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent from Boston College on Thursday. The news came out a few days after the Eagles decided to part ways with Head Men’s Basketball Coach Earl Grant following a disappointing 11-20 season in 2025-2026, before failing to make it to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament. Beamer said in a statement he posted on his social media accounts. “I want to sincerely thank the Boston College Men’s Basketball program and its entire staff for believing in me and welcoming my family throughout the recruitment process. The relationships we have built mean a lot to me, and I truly appreciate the opportunity that has been extended.
Beamer is a nationally ranked recruit who comes in at No. 93-overall in the Class of 2026, according to 247Sports. He is also the No. 11-ranked combo guard in the country and the No. 16 overall-ranked player in the state of Florida for the upcoming recruiting cycle.
Beamer recently narrowed down his schools to five that included the Eagles, along with Maryland, Mississippi State, South Florida, and Virginia Tech.
Beamer is an aggressive guard who can set the tone with his ability to score on all three levels. He is dangerous when it comes to attacking the rim, as well as building a smooth shooting stroke when it comes to pulling from the mid-range, and can extend his game to the perimeter on the offensive end as well. A major part of his game comes when he is slashing towards the basket, where he can get downhill and is unafraid when it comes to absorbing contact. On the defensive end, he is quick and explosive when it comes to his footwork and speed when guarding the perimeter. He also has great defensive mechanics where he can apply havoc in the passing lanes, forcing turnovers, and playing above the rim with his length-altering shots.
During the Grassroots season last year, Beamer played with Team United on the Nike EYBL Circuit, where he averaged 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while playing at the Peach Jam last summer. The next phase in his game will be to gain consistency when it comes to his shooting percentages off the catch, where he shot just 39% from inside the three-point line and 30% from behind the arc. His senior season with IMG Academy was cut short after sustaining a hand injury right after Christmas break.
