Kayden Allen, A four-star small forward in the upcoming senior class, has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent from the University of Cincinnati, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.
The news came following the departure of Head Men’s Basketball Coach Wes Miller, who was relieved from his duties after spending the last five years coaching the Bearcats program. Miller was hired at the University of Cincinnati in 2021, where he took over for John Brannen after having a decade-long success with UNC-Greensboro, where he led the Spartans to 20+ wins in each of his final five seasons from 2016 to 2021.
The Bearcats finished the 2025-2026 season with an 18-15 record and failed to reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament in each of the five seasons under Miller. The Bearcats had their season come to an end in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals, where they lost to UCF, 66-65, after squandering an 8-point lead in the last two minutes of regulation.
The 6-foot-5 senior small forward originally committed to the Bearcats back in October before officially signing his National Letter of Intent (NLI) back in November. Allen chose the Bearcats over three other finalists: California, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss.
Allen is rated as the No. 54-overall ranked player in the Class of 2026 and the No. 23-ranked small forward, according to 247Sports.
Allen possesses a big frame and superb athleticism, complemented by his three-level scoring ability, in which he can get downhill, pull up from the mid-range, and be effective from the perimeter.
During his senior season with Long Island Lutheran in New York, Allen averaged 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Before coming to Long Island Lutheran, Allen played at national powerhouse Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, where he averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game for the Eagles, who reached the Chipotle Nationals Play-in Tournament.
