Dylan Mingo, a 5-star combo guard out of Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York, announced his college commitment on national television on Tuesday.

Dylan Mingo is finally off the board after delaying his commitment for a month, as he announced on ESPN’s First Take that he will be playing his collegiate basketball career for Hubert Davis and the University of North Carolina.

Mingo, a 6-foot-5 combo guard out of Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York, is rated as the No. 2 combo guard in the upcoming recruiting cycle. He chose the Tar Heels over Baylor, Penn State, and Washington. He is the younger brother of Kayden Mingo, who is currently a freshman on the Penn State men’s basketball team. Mingo becomes the second commit for the Tar Heels in the 2026 recruiting cycle, where he joins four-star small forward Maximo Adams, out of Sierra Canyon High School in Southern California. Mingo has been limited for his senior season after sustaining a high ankle sprain that kept him out of the City of Palms Classic as well as the Jordan Brand Classic. He returned in January for the Hoophall Classic, where he put up productive numbers in limited minutes. Last summer, Mingo played for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit, where he averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. He also took home MVP honors at the NBPA Top 100 Camp last summer, where he averaged 23.8 points and 6.8 assists per game in four games played.

Mingo is a versatile playmaker with a wingspan reaching 6 feet, 10 inches, and can make a ton of havoc from the lead guard position on the offensive end. He has a strong knack when it comes to attacking the basket off the bounce as well as finishing strong at the rim off the catch. His length and versatility on the defensive end allow him to be switchable as well as guard multiple positions. His competitiveness, high basketball IQ, and the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor could spell some immediate playing time at the next level.
