OTRHoopsReport: Nike Extravaganza Player Spotlight – Vasser – Feb. 7, 2014

Santa Ana, Calif. – One of the more impressive guards from last weekend’s Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High School had to Johnnie Vassar of San Juan Capistrano, California.  This was our first time seeing Vassar since his short stint at Milton High School in Georgia. The 6 foot point guard played his junior season and then transferred to JSerra Catholic after coach David Boyd resigned.

Vassar is a true point guard who is small but possesses good court awareness and savvy. He is a master at penetrating and dishing. He changes speeds and directions on a dime and is a good enough shooter from beyond the arc to keep the defense honest. He sees the court with a point guard mentality. His ability to drive the lane and set up teammates for easy buckets around the basket is truly special. The left-handed lead guard is headed to play for Chris Collins at Northwestern where he joins a recruiting class that features Vic Law, Gavin Skelly, Bryant McIntosh, and Scottie Lindsey.

Watch Highlights of Vassar compliments of 2eZ gang:
