Basketball as the Vehicle

Basketball plays a pivotal role in the lives of tens of thousands of players in this country. With so much time, effort, and resources devoted toward the game, the question of ‘why’ sometimes is asked.

Why play this game?

Why spend this much time on this sport?

North Point Youth Sports has the answers to these questions. Coach and founder of the organization, Corey Walker, tells On the Radar Hoops that its purpose is wrapped up in its motto. “We aim to impact lives through the game of basketball.”

Understanding basketball as a vehicle for better lives is the overriding purpose for this organization. And the foundation of this program is built upon values two millennia old. Walker says, “We want to reshape the mindset of the young people in our program to impact their community through Christian values.”

Walker’s answers to why the club was formed are tightly tied to the how. He says, “We want to develop a Christian foundation with our players. Using basketball will give the kids a purpose, which is key in impacting our communities.”

On-Court Success

North Point Youth has helped propel several young men onto the collegiate level. Most notably, Corey Walker Jr. helped South Florida win its first AAC Regular Season Championship in the 2023-2024 season. This highlights a group of alumni who have suited up at all levels of collegiate basketball, which is a notable accomplishment for a relatively young program.

There is evidence that the alumni list will grow after this year’s senior graduating class. Class of 2026 guard Dylan Larsen is heating up for First Coast Christian High School this season. He reportedly is shooting better than 40% and is among the top 20 players in the state in 3-pointers made. He earned an offer from South Florida Bible College in December of last year.

Here is what an On the Radar Hoops evaluator had to say about Larsen at the Battle at the Beach in Daytona, Florida, in May of last year:

Dylan Larsen is a knock down shooter that doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off. In addition, Larsen can create off the dribble and get downhill to finish around the basket.

Expanding the Impact

Walker explains North Point Youth Sports’ mission for 2026. “We aim to expand our program into other communities, schools, and cities. We want to build programs for kids to learn the fundamentals of God and basketball and how to become elite in whatever they do.”

Walker gives credit to the On the Radar Hoops platform for the opportunity for growth. He says that the challenges his players meet on the court require them to respond with an “’I cannot quit attitude’ no matter how tough it may get.”

He goes on to say that the organization has benefited from the atmosphere of excellence and the “opportunity to play at the highest level of travel basketball.”
