PLAYERS FEATURED
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) boys’ and girls’ basketball state championships resumed this week, with the smaller classifications taking the floor. Here is who stood out on Day 3:
Tucker Fox - Victory Christian Academy - 2026
Fox was creating havoc during the Class 1A Championship Game against Sagemont, where he finished with 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-13 from behind the arc. His ability to be effective off the catch and bounce from the perimeter got his team within three points after trailing by 20 in the second half. His energy on the defensive end was impeccable, where he got into the passing gaps as well as being a pest when guarding the ball. His two-way playmaking was a steppingstone throughout the season for the Storm.
Christian Fuller - Victory Christian Academy - 2027
Fuller brought his tenacious energy as a gifted scorer, where he made an impact off the catch as well as the bounce. The 6-foot-3 junior guard made incredible strides playing off the ball, where he got to his spots and brought a great understanding with his spacing and court awareness. On the defensive end, he was guarding on and off the ball at a high level, where he let his athleticism speak volumes. Fuller is the real deal when it comes to his offensive mechanics as well as his ability to make an impact on the defensive end.
Ryan Gornto - Providence School - 2027
Gornto was locked in on every possession offensively as well as defensively in the Class 2A Final against Miami Country Day. The 6-foot-3 junior guard also continued to show why he is one of the top shooters off the catch in the state, knocking down four 3-pointers on eight attempts, finishing with 14 points. His high-arcing shot made it difficult for the opposition to attempt to block the shot, as well as building a quick release. After picking up an offer from Jacksonville University during his sophomore season, I fully expect Gornto to have a big summer on the recruitment trail.
Nolan Nelson - Providence School - 2027
The 6-foot-8 junior small forward operated as a primary driver and brought a strong ability when it came to finishing at the rim during the Class 2A Final against Miami Country Day. He was also very comfortable with his handle out on the perimeter despite only taking two shots from behind the arc. His soft touch inside the paint allowed him to create scoring chances for himself as well as his teammates, where he was patient and waited for the defensive breakdown before finishing around the rim. With his ability to stay active on both ends of the floor, don’t be surprised if Nelson starts hearing from college coaches before the spring live period arrives.
Miguel Orbe - Miami Country Day - 2027
Orbe displayed his true leadership, where he thrived in his decision-making as well as his efficiency rate. The 6-foot-3 junior guard was able to consistently relocate and find open space on the floor, where he knocked down shots across all three scoring levels. Beyond his ability to finish off the catch as well as the bounce, his movement off the ball continues to stand out. Defensively, his length and ability to disrupt the passing lanes continued to speak high volumes. Look for Orbe’s recruitment to take off to a new level as the spring and summer grassroots season approaches.
Branden Sharpe - Sagemont - 2028
Sharpe had an all-around performance in the Class 1A Championship Game against Victory Christian Academy, where he displayed his creativity and energy on and off the ball. His athleticism spoke high volumes, as he was able to get to the rim as well as being unafraid when it came to drawing contact. Sharpe finished with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from behind the arc. His court vision is among the elite in this year’s sophomore class, where his passing is impeccable. On defense, he guarded positions 1 through 3 using his strength and length to his advantage, where he limited Victory Christian to one-and-done possessions on numerous occasions.
Kevin Thomas - Sagemont - 2026
The 6-foot-8 senior guard and LSU signee is the lead catalyst in helpingSagemont win its fourth consecutive state title. His inside-out touch has shown a ton of consistency throughout the season, where he can finish off the catch as well as the bounce. His ability to finish above the rim was the focal point in the Class 1A Championship Game. Thomas is a modern-day wing who has a smooth handle, and he could easily translate his game when he gets to the next level.
