PLAYERS FEATURED

Florida’s underclassmen are some of the most talented in the nation. Between the size and developing skill sets there are plenty of players we need to keep tabs on. This article is the first of two that highlights the best 2029, 2030, and 2031 prospects from the Memorial Day Classic.

Marco Johnson | SE Elite | 2029

Johnson may be one of the most complete guard prospects in the state and possibly the country. At 6’4 he has the positional size to play both backcourt shots. When he’s off ball he’s a cutter with a pure jumper of movement. On the ball he’s a slasher who can get to the rim when he wants and manipulate the defense for kick outs. He’s a good defender with the strength, length, and hands to be a disruptive perimeter defender.

Will Gonzalez | OBG | 2030

Gonzalez is a big playmaker who makes difficult passes look routine. He plays at a pace few defenders in the 14U division can match allowing him to get whenever he wants on the floor. He’s constantly putting pressure on the rim with his speed and size advantage. Gonzalez finishes at the rim with power and finesse. He’s the ultimate break starter with the ability to find guys in transition and blow by defenders in the open court. He has advanced passing traits like being able to throw darts with both hands and making Duffy cross court passes across his body.

Avery Jones | SE Elite | 2029

A is developing into one of the most interesting guard prospects we have in the state. At 6’6 he has the size to create mismatches for most perimeter defenders at this level. He’s strong, knows his spots, and balances inside out scoring at all times. He has the size to put defenders on his hip and walk them down the court to start the offense. He’s a solid slasher who can finish at the rim and find open shooters. Jones is a capable three level scorer with a natural feel for the game and playmaking.

Wol Deng | Nightrydas | 2030

Deng is a 6’8 forward who showed off his ball skills and athleticism in flashes throughout the weekend. He has the speed to be an effective rim runner and the skills to grab a rebound push the break and finish above the rim. As his feel for the game continues to improve he has the potential to develop into a skilled run and jump big.

Isaiah Bridges | Nightrydas | 2030

Bridges is a confident big guard who knows how to use his 6’5 frame. He plays a physical game while staying under control. He has a strong handle and good footwork for someone his age. He hits shots off the dribble and has touch on his floaters.

Junior Fernandez | Sunshine Elite | 2029

Fernandez has been a consistent outside shooter all summer. He’s a knock down catch and shoot three point artist with a quick release and range near the college three. He’s becoming more comfortable putting the ball on the ground to attack close outs for floaters or quick looks at the cup.

Jeremiah Gordon | Sunshine Elite | 2029

I know Gordon for his athleticism and developing point guard skills. Last weekend I was introduced to his ability to create his own shot on the perimeter. The jump shot is still a work in progress but he is comfortable taking shots off the dribble. His athleticism and footwork allow him to create a ton of space and freeze defenders in their place. Combine that with his ability to attack the basket and we’re looking at a guy who can keep defenses guessing.

Alexander Boodia | Florida Sons | 2029

Boodia has some of the best physical tools you’ll find in the 2029 class. He’s   around 6’10 with arms long enough to scratch his knees stranding straight up. On the court he has the awareness to make his tools deterrents in the paint.

Kaden Mullins | Nightrydas | 2030

Mullins is a confident small lead guard. Desire giving up several inches to his 17U openers Mullins was able to score over closes with his jump shot and attack with his floater.

Kendon Hayes | Xtreme Icebreakers | 2031

Hayes has an advanced scoring package for a middle school guard. He balances pace with lightning quick moves and a proven jump shot. He can get hit behind the line and makes shots in the mid range off the dribble. He’s a solid Knock down shooter who can hit shots off movement. Hayes looks like a natural scorer with a feel for playmaking.
