The No. 67-overall ranked player in the nation announced his commitment to Florida State on Thursday:
Martay Barnes, A four-star shooting guard in the senior class, announced he has committed to Florida State on Thursday, he confirmed with On the Radar Hoops.
The 6-foot-2 senior out of Academy of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, chose the Seminoles over Auburn following his official visit to Tallahassee on Tuesday. He also heard from schools such as Kansas, Indiana, Miami, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and several others. He also took an official visit with the Tigers last weekend for their showdown with Kentucky.
Barnes is rated as the No. 67-overall prospect in the country for the Class of 2026, as the No. 11-overall ranked shooting guard, and the No. 12-overall ranked prospect in the state of Florida.
Barnes was originally a member of the 2027 recruiting cycle until last week, when he decided to re-class and join the upcoming senior class. He was previously a Top 50 nationally ranked recruit before the decision to graduate and be a part of this year’s recruiting class, where he fell into the top 75 nationally ranked players. He maintained his four-star recruitment status throughout the recruitment process.
He becomes the fifth commit for Luke Loucks and the Seminoles during this recruitment cycle. Barnes joins four-star shooting guard Brandon Bass Jr., four-star center Marcis Ponder, four-star small forward Collin Paul, and four-star combo guard Jasen Lopez, who will also be playing for the Seminoles football team next fall.
During his senior season with the Golden Bulls, Barnes averaged 19.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.4 steals per game during Grind Session play. He also had a strong summer last year playing for Austin Rivers SE Elite, playing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, where he averaged 14.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Barnes displays a smooth ability where he can knock down shots from the perimeter with confidence off the catch as well as the bounce. His smooth shooting stroke allows lanes to open, where he can also finish at the front of the rim on the attack. On the defensive end, he can flourish whether it’s guarding on the ball or playing with his length and athleticism in the passing lanes. He is smooth when it comes to rebounding from the guard position and is unafraid when playing with speed in transition-scoring opportunities. As his senior season winds down, Barnes is poised to have a strong development when he gets to Florida State, where he can make an immediate impact.
