On The Radar took over Gwinnett County with Summer Jam. Rife with talent, the younger age groups featured plenty of talented players who’ll be featured in stories like this for the next few years. Here’s who stood out in the 16U division:

Blaine Groce – BCB – Calhoun (Pictured) - 2028
Blaine drilled three quick threes to set the tone in a 44-18 win over the Warner Robins All-Stars. At 6-foot-2, Groce has nice size on the perimeter. He played both on and off the ball, looking comfortable as a decision maker. While his three-point shot was first to catch my eye, I liked how well he saw the floor as a passer, riffling in assists down low and finding streaking teammates in transition. Continuing to add to his high IQ attack will help him reach his ceiling. He handles the ball well and with increased shiftiness he should be able to penetrate routinely even if he isn’t an elite burner. Groce jumps well and is a skillful finisher. His two-way effort on both ends of the floor makes him impactful. The well-rounded guard went for 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. In Game 2, Blaine followed up with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals and 1 block. Groce is trending up in Northwest Georgia.

AJ Levros – Team Next Up – Brunswick - 2027
The rising senior did damage on the 16U circuit using his springy activity to impact games in the paint. Levros was quick to rebounds earning multiple opportunities. AJ made swift moves whether with his back to the basket or on face-ups. He converted numerous And-1s, displaying a soft touch at the line. His length played well defensively as he altered shots throughout the day.

DJ Jackson – Team Next Up – Brunswick - 2028
I appreciated how DJ played at his own pace. He was always ready to fire off the catch but if his shot wasn’t there, Jackson was willing to probe the defense as both a facilitator and scorer. DJ was deadly when given time and space from beyond the arc. He used a smooth, patient release to hone in on the basket to torch the defense.

MJ Jawona – GA Stunners – South Paulding - 2028
MJ posted 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 3 blocks in a 47-41 win over Team Bo Bell. Back on the hardwood, Jawona has a big summer ahead to make up for lost time. The rising junior is long, lanky and athletic. His energy level has ticked up, playing on both ends of the floor. He is a nuisance at the top of the press, using his wingspan and quickness to alter passing lanes. In the paint, he blocks shots consistently. On offense, Jawona attacked in a variety of ways. He had a coast-to-coast finish off a eurostep. MJ liked to catch on the wing and high post and look to use his speed to get to the basket. He faced-up and shot turnaround jumpers. Jawona’s range is expanding, knocking down a triple in the second half. MJ has nice tools to work with. He’s a major difference maker in Douglasville if he puts it all together.

Aiden Stutson – GA Stunners – Hiram - 2028
Stutson did a little bit of everything in a 47-41 win, recording 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. His motor had him involved in seemingly every single play. He hustled on defense for deflections and when the ball was in his hands, he was getting others involved. When looking for his own offense, Aiden tried to get to his floater and even got on the offensive glass to grind out hoops.

Isaiah Gordon – Team Bo Bell – Decatur - 2028
The big lefty has a lot of promise. He checks boxes with his size, mobility and emerging skill. He scored with a hook shot and proved his toughness when finishing through contact, converting a pair of And-1s including on a slam. He is able to get deep post position on seals. Isaiah had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 1 block against the GA Stunners.

Alex Manglogiannis – BCB – Creekview - 2028
Alex had all the answers in a 59-56 win over TWU, piling in 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Slightly undersized at around 5-foot-10, Manglogiannis was able to take advantage of his physical prowess, muscling his way into the paint to finish through fouls. Alex showcased a tear drop floater while also spacing the floor with his jumper. He made some key plays down the stretch not only offensively but defensively by getting into passing lanes.

Ben Elson – TWU – West Forsyth - 2028
Named Forsyth County Tip-Off Club Newcomer of the Year, Ben has carried his hot play into travel season. While he may not be flashy, Elson is substance over sizzle. He’s a steady wing that can play inside and out. Elson has a soft touch around the rim which also extends to the three-point line. Ben cuts well for easy buckets understanding spacing. He plays under control and is adept at finding mismatches. He is capable of posting up and can attack off the bounce with sneaky athleticism. Elson flashed a little bit of everything against BCB, finishing with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.

Colin Cane – TWU – West Forsyth - 2028
Cane plays with great energy and effort. He’s a solid leaper, giving him the ability to crash in for offensive rebounds from his guard position. Colin likes making the extra pass but isn’t afraid to hunt his offense off the dribble. Cane scores the ball from all three levels when he’s not too busy setting up his teammates. Colin had 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals vs. BCB. He’s a pesky player who makes winning plays.

Martin Hulsey – Georgia Stars North – Lumpkin County - 2028
Standing close to 6-foot-7, the rising junior is an interesting interior presence. Hulsey has solid tools. He moves well and has lean muscle which he uses in the paint to his advantage, especially on the glass. Martin is a good passer out of the post, able to find shooters at the top or in the corners. Hulsey runs the floor for easy buckets and in the half court, can set up shop to score with hook shots. He is capable of playing above the rim and protects the rim defensively. In a 65-59 win over Georgia Legacy Select, Hulsey produced 17 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks while shooting 5-7 from the foul line.

Chane Atsain – Georgia Legacy Select OTR – Etowah - 2028
I loved how Atsain played against the much larger Georgia Stars North. Chane dumped in 21 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. He thrived as a penetrator, blending speeds effectively as he craftily got into the paint where he played off two feet. Atsain’s feel for the game was on display as he expertly decided whether to stop-and-pop from the mid-range, get to his floater or dish to shooters along the three-point line. I like Chane to make an impact for a new-look Etowah team this upcoming season.
